Healthy Post Thanksgiving “Detox”

While our liver, kidneys, and lungs work hard to detoxify our bodies from toxins and pollutants, it’s natural to feel like we need a “reset” after a big Thanksgiving meal. Between appetizers, drinks, the main course, and dessert, you might end up feeling bloated and sluggish. Here are some simple tips to help you bounce back after indulging.
Stay Hydrated: Aim to drink about half your body weight in ounces of water. If this is more than you’re used to, increase your intake gradually to avoid feeling lightheaded.
Get Moving: Exercise is a fantastic way to boost your mood and help you feel lighter after a big meal. It’s also one of the best ways to manage weight, along with mindful portion control on non-holiday days. Physical activity can also help manage holiday stress and anxiety.
Eat Fresh and Balanced: Focus on fresh foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins (like white-meat turkey), and whole grains. Incorporating these into your regular diet can help ensure that holiday indulgences don’t derail your healthy routine.
Green Pea and Avocado Nuggets
Kids will love dipping, stacking and snacking on this savory, finger-friendly food for any time of day.

Makes: 8 Servings
Ingredients:
- 2 cups peas, fresh or frozen
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 ripe, fresh avocado, halved, pitted and peeled
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 Tbsp. parsley, finely chopped (optional)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cup shredded Mozzarella or Cheddar cheese
Instructions:
- If using frozen peas, thaw and squeeze out any excess moisture. Add the half of the peas and all the remaining ingredients into a food processor and pulse until combined. Stir in remaining peas.
- Spray and heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Use hands to form desired nugget sizes. Cook in batches (leaving space between each nugget) for approximately 1 minute each side or until golden and cooked through.
- Let cool and firm up. Serve plain or with dipping sauce of choice.
Notes & Tips:
Nuggets can be stored in an airtight container for up to four days in the refrigerator. They also reheat and crisp up well from frozen either in a skillet or on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet in a 400°F oven.
